About Color Vision Deficiency (CVD)

What is Daltonization?
Named after John Dalton (the first scientist to study color blindness), Daltonization is a mathematical process that transforms the colors in an image. When a user has lost sensitivity in one photopigment (such as red-sensing L-cones or green-sensing M-cones), the algorithm calculates the lost error vector and rotates it into visible wavelengths, increasing luminance and chroma contrasts so colors that normally blend together become clearly distinguishable.
Filters Guide:
  • Protanopia Boost: For red-blindness / red-weakness. Enhances red vs. green contrast by shifting red frequencies into amber and blue channels.
  • Deuteranopia Boost: For green-blindness / green-weakness (the most common CVD form). Distinguishes green vegetation, traffic lights, and charts.
  • Tritanopia Boost: For blue-yellow blindness. Separates blue from greenish hues and yellow from pink.
  • High Contrast Edge: Amplifies luminance edges and micro-contrasts, ideal for Achromatopsia or low-vision reading.
  • Simulations: Allows family, friends, and designers to perceive the world exactly as a person with CVD perceives it.
